Caravan Trades Help Manual

Trade Markets
The Trade Markets are situated in Cities of all sizes, inhabited by all kinds of alien creatures. Each market can trade in a variety of commodities.

Each market may trade in many different types of commodities, listed in the Empire Map and in the pulldown list for that market. Sometimes illegal commodities are listed, but they are still illegal and the local law enforcement will attempt to find and confiscate them.

Each market has a Law Level that indicates how strictly the local law enforcement guards against bandits and smuggling. Running illegal commodities into a market with Oppressive law enforcement is a very risky business indeed, but Loose Law Level is an invitation to smuggling. Bandits operating near Strict or Oppressive Cities are more likely to be caught and imprisioned. The Law Level of any market can be determined by looking at the Markets link and choosing a market.

Certain cities produce or consume commodities, others just trade them. Finding markets in cities that produce a particular commodity means opportunity to buy cheaply, and similarly, markets in cities that consume a particular commodity will be more likely to pay higher prices for it. For this reason, markets do not publish detailed production/consumption data, but the astute trader will figure it out quickly. In addition, markets change their trade commodities or production/consumption from time to time, so it is wise to keep an eye out for a new opportunity.
